Job Summary
The Paralegal provides timely, skilled, and administrative support and legal research for attorneys and staff. Under an attorney's supervision, prepares legal documents and responses. These may include pleadings, discovery, chronologies, agreements, correspondence, memoranda, contract reviews, and examinations. The Paralegal delivers quality reviews of legal findings and documents.
Essential Functions of the Role
Risk Management Department:
Assist attorneys representing Baylor Scott & White Health with litigation and court proceedings and subpoenas. Notify witnesses, gather information, organize, comply with deadlines, compile documents, and handle discovery tasks.
Perform competent, timely research and investigation for discovery proceedings. Work professionally with attorneys, staff, BSWH facilities, departments, and physicians to obtain information on time.
Identify potential risk concerns in requested documents and review of findings that may be of concern.
Meet with the assigned attorney/litigation team on a regular basis to provide status reports on cases and timely updates.
Responsible for overall case file management, including electronic database and correspondence files. Ensure updates are accurate, follow-up occurs as appropriate, and files are maintained according to checklist completion. Maintain assigned cases in the Risk Management database. Ensure reports, financials, and other data elements are complete, accurate, and current when accessed.
Review invoices from outside counsel for accurate billing and fees. Promptly investigate and resolve any discrepancies. Submit for payment according to internal processes in a timely manner.
Prepare and arrange post-suit/settlement documents, reports, and meetings as necessary. Review, redact, and summarize documents.
File documents and responses as required including pleadings, motions as requested by counsel and in accordance with current legal standards.
