Description
The System Director, CHRISTUS Foundation for HealthCare is the senior executive representing CHRISTUS Health and is responsible for shaping and advancing the philanthropic vision, operational excellence, and donor engagement strategy across the organization?s Houston and Galveston ministries. This leader oversees all foundation staff and operations, supports clinical program development, manages endowment growth, and directs major fundraising initiatives, including capital campaigns.
Based in the Greater Houston area with oversight extending to Galveston operations, the System Director/President reports directly to the corporate office in Irving and collaborates closely with system leadership to ensure alignment with ministry-wide priorities.
The Christus Foundation for HealthCare operates seven ministries and is responsible to secure philanthropic contributions to enable their continued operations.

Education:
Bachelor?s degree required; Master?s degree in nonprofit management, business, healthcare administration, or related field preferred.
Experience:
10+ years of progressive leadership experience in philanthropy, healthcare foundations, or nonprofit executive roles.
Demonstrated success leading major gift programs, capital campaigns, and endowment growth.
Experience working within or alongside clinical operations strongly preferred.
Experience leading or supporting initiatives focused on homelessness, housing stability, or vulnerable populations; demonstrated ability to collaborate with community partners to address social determinants of health preferred.
Skills:
Proven ability to lead teams across multiple locations and manage complex initiatives.
Strong relationship?building skills with donors, community partners, and Board members.
Exceptional communication, strategic planning, and organizational leadership capabilities.
Strong communicator of mission with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to travel between Houston, Galveston, and Irving as needed.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
Travel: The Executive must be able to travel to facility locations when required. The Executive will have a moderate amount (30%) of business travel to CHRISTUS U.S. regional locations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership & Governance:
Proactively supports the mission and vision of CHRISTUS Health. Demonstrates and expects others to demonstrate personal and professional behaviors consistent with CHRISTUS Health?s mission, vision and core values.
Provide executive oversight of all Foundation operations, staff, and programs across Houston and Galveston.
Develop and implement a multi year philanthropic strategy aligned with corporate and regional goals.
Serve as the primary liaison between regional foundation leadership and the Irving based corporate office.
Collaborate with key stakeholders, including CHRISTUS Sponsoring Congregation (Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston) and CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic, to ensure alignment of clinical resources and with heritage, mission, and shared philanthropic priorities.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards related to fundraising and donor stewardship.
Board of Directors Engagement:
Serve as the senior staff partner to the Foundation Board of Directors.
Oversee the preparation and presentation of strategic updates, financial reports, campaign progress, and operational performance to the Board.
Support Board development, recruitment, and engagement to strengthen governance and philanthropic impact.
Collaborate with Board members to cultivate donor relationships and expand community partnerships.
Engage regularly with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, as key mission partners in governance and community engagement activities.
Fundraising & Capital Development:
Lead major gift, planned giving, annual giving, and corporate/foundation relations strategies to grow philanthropic revenue.
Oversee planning and execution of capital campaigns, including feasibility studies, case development, and donor engagement.
Oversee and grow the organization?s endowment portfolio in partnership with corporate finance and investment teams.
Cultivate and steward high value donor relationships across Houston and Galveston.
Clinical & Operational Integration:
Partner with clinical and operational leaders in both Houston and Galveston to identify funding opportunities that advance patient care, innovation, and community health.
Translate clinical needs into compelling philanthropic opportunities and donor ready initiatives.
Support programmatic development, capital expansion, and service line growth through targeted fundraising strategies.
Coordinate with the CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic and Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, Houston, on initiatives that reflect shared ministry values and support community focused mission work.
Team Leadership & Culture:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing foundation team across multiple locations.
Establish performance metrics, operational workflows, and professional development pathways for staff.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and mission driven excellence.
Financial & Operational Management:
Oversee Foundation budgets, financial reporting, and operational performance.
Ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and stewardship of all philanthropic funds.
Provide regular updates to corporate leadership and Foundation Board of Directors on fundraising progress, campaign performance, and strategic initiatives.
