Position Summary:
The Assistant General Counsel assists MultiCare business leaders, in-house and external counsel on transaction and regulatory matters, including professional and clinical service agreement, transactions, joint ventures, affiliations, mergers & acquisitions, clinical service agreements and other affiliations. The incumbent partners with management, Compliance and Internal Audit to provide legal advice and direction on regulatory issues such as EMTALA, HIPAA, reimbursement, fraud and abuse, Stark and Anti-kickback issues in all aspects of health system operations, medical staff issues, bed licensing, protective orders and subpoenas; serves as a subject matter expert, educational resource, problem solver and strategic advisor, to MultiCare business leaders and colleagues on healthcare transaction and regulatory issues; assists business leaders and outside consulting resources in the evaluation of business and transaction opportunities, negotiations, drafting, and coordinating legal aspects of transactions (including legal due diligence) and engagement and oversight of outside counsel.
MultiCare Legal Services works in a distributed/remote environment. Some travel is required for team meetings and other in-person meetings. Candidates residing in the Pacific Northwest or Intermountain West regions are encouraged to apply.Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a health system corporate legal department or law firm with significant involvement in combination of regulatory, compliance, risk management, insurance, quality and safety, employment and contractual issues/matters and additional experience with health care transactions, joint ventures, affiliations, mergers and acquisitions, and governance mattersEducation/Licenses/Certifications:
Juris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law school
Licensed to practice law. Successful candidates will also be required to obtain Washington State licensure within first year of employment (House Counsel licensure acceptable.)Position Type: Full-Time Regular
