Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Chief Data Officer of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Jeff Leek, established the Fred Hutch Data Science Lab (DaSL) to develop and support the overall data strategy for the organization. The mission of the Data Science Lab to ensure an effective data ecosystem at Fred Hutch by developing a modern, well documented, well implemented, overall data strategy that evolves with the needs and capabilities of those leveraging data at Fred Hutch regardless of "where they live" from the clinic to the research groups. We believe focusing on people is critical in building a strong, dynamic community united around using data to improve human health and cancer care. Responsibilities
The Fred Hutch Data Science Lab (DaSL) invites applications for an Open Cancer Informatics Intern to analyze, process, and visualize cancer informatics and public health data for research and analytical purposes. Accordingly, the intern will engage in mentored projects that will include the following:
- Data Management:
- Load, process, and clean CSV and spatial data files.
- Integrate different datasets to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Implement quality control checks for data integrity.
- R Shiny Application Development:
- Develop interactive R Shiny applications for data visualization and analysis.
- Ensure optimal application performance.
- Co-design user-friendly application interfaces.
- Generate reports and visualizations for stakeholders.
- R Package Development:
- Design and develop R packages that facilitate the analysis of cancer informatics and public health data.
- Write and maintain package documentation and related websites.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Informatics
- Data Management: collaborative experience with database engineers, experience handling health informatics data
- Software Tools: R, Python, SQL, REDCap, HTML, CSS, JavaScript

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.00 to $25.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
