DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: Surgical Services providesintegration and oversight of the Peri-Anesthesia and Procedural Care departments associated with inpatient and outpatient surgical & procedural care. Areas of responsibility include the Cath Lab, Preoperative Holding area, PACU, and the Short Stay Unit for the Bend campus as well as the Pre-Surgery that support patients throughout the Health System. Peri-Anesthesia teams support all surgical and procedural service lines including general and orthopedic trauma care, cardiovascular, interventional radiology, and multiple sub-specialties in our Bend level 2 facility.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Peri-Anesthesia and Procedural Care provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for assigned departments and services. This position exemplifies the leadership values of St. Charles lean transformation journey, emphasizing continuous improvement, collaboration, and a deep respect for people. The Director effectively plans, directs, coordinates, and implements services in alignment with hospital operations, in close partnership with the Service Line Administrator and Senior Medical Director. Key responsibilities include financial management, resource planning, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This position drives business and program development aligned with disease state management strategies and broader St. Charles Health System and Service Line priorities. The Director also actively engages with providers, population health leaders, and community stakeholders to shape responsive and innovative care delivery.
This position directly oversees the following roles: Manager, Cath Lab, Cardiopulmonary Rehab, and EKG; Manager, Peri-Anesthesia; Manager, Pre-Surgery Clinic and Pre-Operative Unit, and Manager, PACU.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
In alignment with hospital operations, Service Line Administrator, and key performance indicators (KPIs) described for the health system, this position:
Provides administrative partnership in the execution of applicable agreements and contracts related to procedural areas.
Collaborates and cohesively partners with administration, operations and physicians in the Surgery & Trauma Service Line, to develop, plan, coordinate, analyze and operationalize strategic and tactical approaches within the departments to meet clinical and financial outcomes of the service line at the system, community and joint venture/ service agreement levels.
Assures safe & financially efficient management of all service contracts, equipment, and materials and implants used for procedural cases and peri-anesthesia care. Partners with Supply Chain leadership.
Works with key administrators, including advisory, medical staff, and operational committees, as well as both employed and independent providers and support services to provide advice and support that relate to the service and financial success of the Surgery & Trauma Service Line and the health system.
Contributes to special projects that require multi-disciplinary approaches, serving as counsel and facilitator to build bridges with other departments, community partners and support services.
Directs all quality, safety, and continuous improvement strategies.
Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control.
Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high-performance team that meets organizational and department goals
Monitors and ensures all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements.Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.
Provides and oversees teams delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.
Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Lean concepts and tools.
Represents all partners and the organization in its relationships with the external St. Charles Health System environment including but not limited to the community, other regulatory and health care agencies and the region.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelors degree in Nursing. Masters degree in related field. Three (3) years of director level leadership experience, and completion of a Masters degree program within three (3) years of hire, may be considered of a masters degree.
Preferred: Masters degree in Nursing.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Required: Current Oregon RN License. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all SCHS worksites.
Preferred:AORN, ASPAN, Nursing Leadership, Lean/Six Sigma or other applicable certification.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Seven (7) years of related nursing experience, at least two (2) years in a leadership role.
Preferred: Director level leadership experience. Experience in peri-anesthesia or perioperative services leadership role. Experience with formal process improvement methods and demonstrated use of methods.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
