The Manager Clinical Informatics reports to the System Director Informatics and is primarily responsible for the day to day operations of his/her assigned Informatics teams. This individual engages with all levels of leaders across the continuum of care, in his/her assigned area of responsibility, to facilitate planning, coordination, and implementation of patient-centric clinical information system initiatives. The Manager Clinical Informatics is responsible for developing strategic clinical informatics plans and serves as a champion and change agent for complex clinical projects and systems that supports efficiency and effectiveness for end users, with the primary goal of advancing evidence-based practice. Responsibilities for this individual include training, mentoring and coaching assigned informatics associates on their daily activities. This position manages and oversees team activities including appropriate resourcing of staff, staff assignments, and timely delivery of services. The Manager Clinical Informatics will direct reports efficiently and effectively to meet service, delivery, and quality metrics. Responsibilities will include training, mentoring and coaching Clinical Informatics associates on their daily activities as well as leading clinical information system projects and initiatives as assigned. This position will assist the System Director Informatics with the recruitment and development of a skilled, experienced and motivated team. This position is exempt.
Responsibilities:
Applies clinical informatics professional practice standards in service delivery activities, to include but not limited to, opportunity discovery, decision-making, solution design, implementation, support, and education delivery
Champions evidenced-based practice, and drives for excellence in content development through pro-active engagement in the Clinical Informatics governance process, and related committee/workgroup activities
Monitors, manages, and reports day-to-day operations to the System Director Informatics to support efficient and effective planning for resource utilization and prioritization of the body of work
May be called upon to assume task completion responsibilities as required by service demands
Provides timely and effective oral and written communication to all served by Clinical Informatics
Provides input to the System Director Informatics on organizational needs/concerns, process improvement, and team professional development
Proactively engages with CHRISTUS business units, at all appropriate levels, to support the development and accomplishment of CHRISTUS strategies and clinical professional/quality goals and objectives
Assist System Director Informatics with associate evaluation process
Promotes the professional development of all Clinical Informatics associates using counseling, teaching, and role modeling techniques
Provides associate advice with interpreting and/or executing departmental and organizational standards, policies, and procedures to facilitate the goals and objectives of the organization
Recruits, trains, motivates, evaluates, and retains a staff of highly skilled informatics professionals; terminate staff as required
Provide ongoing management and motivation to ensure that the staff is focused, committed and capable of producing expected results
Establishes and enforces department policies, procedures and standards
May be required to travel to perform duties
May be required to work outside of normal working hours
May be required to work long hours during critical problems or implementations
Requirements:
Bachelor?s Degree in Healthcare, Informatics, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, business or related field; strongly prefer Bachelor?s in clinical health care field in addition to informatics degree/certification or significant professional experience.
Education and experience in relevant Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) support and delivery processes. ITIL Certification preferred.
Financial skills related to budgeting, forecasting and managing departmental budgets.
Strong knowledge of major clinical information system(s)
Strong knowledge of clinical care processes across all clinical disciplines in the continuum of care and demonstrated expertise in the application of clinical technology to these processes
Thorough understanding of hospital and ambulatory care operations
Knowledgeable of relevant national quality, patient safety and regulatory initiatives and ability to address these at a local level
Ability to prioritize workload with attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work under constant deadlines with frequent interruptions and able to handle multiple duties
Must have the ability to organize, coordinate, and direct; demonstrate judgment, diplomacy, assertiveness and initiative
3 or more years of experience with clinical information systems (CIS) design, implementation and optimization in a complex, multi-site environment. Experience supporting Epic strongly preferred.
In-depth, advanced clinical base of knowledge as normally obtained through an Advanced Clinical Degree and three or more years of related clinical and operational experience strongly preferred
Three (3) plus years of direct clinical care experience in relevant clinical discipline strongly preferred
Significant experience in CIS governance design, clinician adoption and alignment
Applied experience in evidence-based medicine content design and implementation
Proven ability to develop, participate in, and implement a successful matrix team structure to support large EMR install minimizing costs, maintaining quality of product, and a focus on resource utilization management using lean methodologies and optimizing staff where relevant
Experience in providing and managing customer support in a highly matrixed organization
Experience within healthcare industry
Ability to work in a collaborative way across a diverse, geographically and culturally, organization
Experience in transformational and organizational change management and demonstrated understanding of change management theories and principles
Experience in managing performance improvement activities, including analyzing clinical workflow processes
Experience in relevant ITIL support and delivery processes
Valid State Driver?s License
Registrations, certifications and/or licensures commensurate with related clinical field (i.e. RN, RPh, CPhT, MT, etc.)
