Job Summary:
The Network Director of HIM Operations provides oversight and direction for the Operations area of the Health Information Management Department (HIM) at Westchester Health Network, ensuring alignment of operations workflows and processes network-wide. An individual in this position serves as subject matter expert for all HIM Operations (non-Coding/non-CDI) issues and serves as HIM liaison to internal and external customers to accomplish WMC Health goals and initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Directs the overall operations of Health Information Management activities at all WMC Health facilities.
- Aligns policies, procedures, and workflows for HIM operations to allow for consistency and cross coverage of responsibilities at a network level
- Esablishes and ensures standardization and "best practices" for all service delivery areas
- Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the EHR (Electronic Health Record) in regards to the impacts on the HIM workforce, processes, etc.
- Actively maintains and manages relationships with internal and external customers to ensure a service oriented, high quality operational and support environment for all systems and departments.
- Directs the staff to ensure the completion, accuracy, and confidentiality of the medical records
- Analyzes, interprets and prepares reports from statistical and other data following formats or guidelines required by regulatory agencies, accrediting organizations or hospital management;
- Develops, implements and maintains systems for the continuous control and flow of patient charts and selected information from charts in order to meet deadlines;
- Establishes and maintains efficient storage and retrieval systems for both active and inactive medical records;
- Reviews, analyzes and manages departmental projects to ensure proper completion according to time schedules and budgets developed in conjunction with the client.
- Establishes and maintains systems to ensure that medical record information is released only to authorized sources and within the required time frame;
- Develops and implements performance monitoring systems to assess levels of performance in all major department functions, product areas, services and customer satisfaction;
- Develops and initiates projects for continuous quality improvement and educates staff on quality improvement activities;
- Consults with physicians when clarification is required to ensure accurate coded assignments;
- Keeps abreast of current trends in health information management operations and makes recommendations to ensure compliance;
- Generates reports utilizing the computerized clinical information system as requested by physicians and other hospital staff;
- Attends meetings, seminars and conferences related to the activities of Health Information Management
- Any other duties deemed necessary to support the overall operations of the Health Information Management Department
Experience:
7 or more years of progressive management experience in health care in an acute care facility of at least 250 beds or more. Previous experience in multi-hospital setting preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Master's degree in Health Information Management or related field, preferred.
Licenses / Certifications:
RHIT or RHIA certification required. - Member of American Health Information Management Association with maintenance of continuing education requirements.
Other:
Broad knowledge of healthcare business operations. Excellent analytical skills to discuss problems, analyze solutions/options, evaluate and enable improvement of process - Influencing skills to aide in negotiation of purchases and contract terms as well as persuasion skills necessary in influencing peers/vendors or new ideas or concepts. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a diverse customer base including, physicians, executive leadership and both technical and administrative staff. Leadership skills such as coaching, and conflict resolutions to aide in the development of departmental personnel. Knowledge of information systems and health care applications and revenue cycle principles - Project management skills - Superior organizational and planning skills.
