The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Oklahoma State University (OSU) Center for Health Sciences (CHS) is actively seeking a dynamic and highly motivated clinical leader to head the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences as Department Chair. This individual will have high visibility with the leadership of the health system and will grow the department to meet clinical needs in the market, notably to play a significant role in staffing the new state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital in Tulsa, OK.
As a department leader of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, this high-profile position will be actively involved in departmental administration, teaching medical students and residents, and advancing clinical care excellence.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences provides comprehensive psychiatric services to all age groups and is a regional leader for innovative, evidence-based treatment programs for a variety of mental health, pain, and addiction disorders. Faculty and staff within the department provide broad educational experiences in multifaceted programs while delivering quality care, backed by leading-edge research and exceptional customer service.Psychiatry Program Highlights:
- As a Carnegie top-tier research university, OSU is Oklahoma’s land-grant institution and is recognized as one of the top 50 public universities in the U.S. and No. 1 in the state.
- Faculty Collaboration: The department is comprised of 18 Physicians; 40 Adjunct Faculty.
- New Psychiatric Hospital will have 106 beds.
- Patient Caseload: Exams & procedures are interchangeable in the department
- Behavioral Health: 8,244
- Addiction: 5,651
- Specialty Services include:
- Addiction: 29% (6 Providers)
- Adult Psychiatry: 24% (5 Attending Providers) (8 PGY3 Residents) (5 PGY4 Residents)
- Child Psychiatry: 19% (4 Attending Providers)
- Therapy: 14% (3 Providers)
- Testing: 14% (3 Providers)
- NIH Grants and Research Opportunities across: Integrated Care platforms, Collaborative Care, Child Psychiatry Access Programs, Virtual Care etc. Addiction medicine, medically assisted treatment care delivery. Research on Trauma and Adversity and the great work of CIRCA.
- Translational and basic science research: The department currently has 2 FTE research assistants.
- Training: Residents, fellows, and students are specialty trained across all ACGME-accredited clinical sites.

- Required Education: An earned Medical Degree, D.O. or M.D. degree, and Board Certification in Psychiatry.
- Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in medical school teaching and leadership or equivalent, preferably in a Vice Chair or Chair role.
- Administrative skills, decision making and supervisory ability.
- Licensed to practice psychiatry in Oklahoma prior to the start of appointment.
- Preferred: Experience in a state system of medical education.
- Possess a demonstrated commitment to innovation and quality improvement pursuits.
- Have leadership experience and be willing to further develop one’s leadership abilities.
- A combination of education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.
