Job Summary:
This position is accountable for clinical core measure data abstraction at Mary Washington Healthcare, identifying trends, communicating opportunities for improvement and participating in the formulation of improvement strategies.Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Perform record review and abstract data elements for CMS/ Joint Commission Core Measures.
- Incorporate new changes in CMS chart abstraction guidelines into daily abstracting practice.
- Assist in chart audits for hospital wide performance improvement activities.
- Maintain inter-rater reliability by successfully passing validation audits.
- Participate and provide support towards the formulation of improvement strategies for Core Measure Performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing, required.
- A licensed practical nurse (LPN) with a minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience may be considered in lieu of RN education.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in direct patient care or quality/utilization/risk management position.
- Knowledge of Managed Care/Utilization Review principles and Joint Commission requirements, required.
- Ability to abstract medical records using established abstraction guidelines, required.
- Recent clinical or medical experience, required.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically to resolve concerns or issues, required.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, work independently, autonomously and maintain a high level of concentration.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and possess good interpersonal skills, required.
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, and data entry applications, required.
- Experience in data collection, chart abstraction is preferred.
