The Herbold Computational Biology Program in the Public Health Sciences (PHS) division is seeking a research administrator (RA) to join our team. Research administrators in the Computational Biology Program provide support to our faculty in pre- and post-award management, regulatory compliance monitoring, and general day-to-day lab operations. The role requires ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, recognize new issues or concerns that arise in a PI's portfolio and coordinate with colleagues in other departments to resolve them. In addition to the team of RA's within the Computational Biology Program, RA's are supported by the PHS RA Peer Support Group. RA's also have regular opportunities to attend conferences and workshops to further their knowledge in the field and develop their professional network.
This Research Administrator will work under general supervision of a research administration manager and partner with faculty to support lab administration. RA III will carry out portfolio analyses and post award issue resolution.
Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate strong organizational skills, an interest in continuous learning, ability to analyze and communicate complex regulatory guidelines, and a desire to work in a supportive and collegial community.
This role will have the opportunity to work partially at our campus and remotely.

Responsibilities
Budget/Fiscal Support
- Develop, monitor, track and project complex multi variable budgets
- Run and analyze reports to identify issues and escalate as needed
- Partner with finance to resolve identified budget and expense issues
Funding Source Administration
- Lead the grant submission process by conducting key tasks such as: creation and communication of timelines to appropriate stakeholders, completion of nontechnical and assigned technical/non-scientific portions of submission, and oversight of institutional signoff
- Perform key post award activities such as: Interpreting the notice of award, flagging unique aspects or budget adjustments and monitoring and adjusting the teams' commitments across the portfolio of projects based on awards
Regulatory Support
- In consultation with PI(s), prepare non-scientific portions of regulatory applications/submissions
- Manage renewal timelines and ensure completion of regulatory documents in a timely manner
- May serve as a central point of contact to answer questions, escalating issues as needed
Computational Biology Program Administration
- Organize the Computational Biology Graduate Student and Postdoc Group
- Organize Computational Biology and COAG Seminar Series, including advertising seminar talks, arranging speaker travel, and supporting day of events.
Award Management for Translational Data Science Interdisciplinary Research Center
- Issue funding opportunity announcements for Fellowships, Pilot Awards, Planning Funds, and other potential funding opportunities from TDS IRC
- Coordinate with TDS IRC leadership to review and issue awards
- Track and manage awards from TDS IRC, ensuring funds are spend in accordance with award guidelines
Funding Portfolio Management
- Manage overall PI grants portfolio, budget planning across portfolio, proactively identifying any potential budget issues.
Regulatory Support
- Identify necessary regulatory components of submissions, confirm that required items are in place, resolve issues (escalating as appropriate)
- Determine impact of and develop implementation plans in response to applicable regulatory changes and/or revisions to Center policies and procedures
Leadership
- Act as a program / divisional resource and assist with training
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant administrative support experience managing federal and/or non-federal sponsored research
- Technical experience sufficient to allow proficiency doing remote work (daily use of MS Outlook, MS Teams, and Zoom)
- Demonstratable experience and knowledge using Excel -for example, using formulas, calculating values in multi-step processes, preparing account reports, and working with pivot tables
- Able to multi-task and work effectively in stressful circumstances, such as tight deadlines
- Basic budgetary knowledge (ability to reconcile, manage, report budget information, etc.)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to understand, interpret, and provide guidance relating to notices of award and terms/conditions for sponsored research
- Budget development and management for multiple types of funding mechanisms (NIH, Foundation, Industry, and pilot funding)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Four years of general administrative experience
Two years of experience as a research administrator preferably with principal investigators/academics
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory guidelines such as IRB, IACUC, MUA
- Multi-project grant experience with a wide variety of funding sources
- Experience managing pre- and post- award process for grant giving

The annual base salary range for this position is from $74,358 to $111,536.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
