About the Baystate Medical Center Midwifery Education Program
The purpose of the Program is to prepare competent midwives committed to providing equitable care with a particular emphasis on meeting the health care needs of diverse populations; and who will promote health equity through practice and involvement in community and professional activities.
Founded in 1991, The Baystate Medical Center Midwifery Education Program is one of older programs in the country and one of only two programs located in an academic medical center. This education model affords the Program Director a unique role that combines midwifery education with clinical practice and supports both the roles of educator and clinician. Funding through Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services funding keeps tuition low, supporting access to diverse students.
The program resides within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and enjoys extensive support of the largest medical center in Western Massachusetts.
