Job Summary
The Language Access Program Manager is responsible for managing the oversight and operation of the Interpreter Service Program for Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC). The Language Access Program Manager ensures that the health system complies with all regulatory requirements relative to the provision of interpreting services. This position is responsible for providing appropriate cultural and language resources for all customers, including, but not limited to, patients, surrogates, caregivers, and Associates.Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates all language access and interpretation services at MWHC.
- Supervises all contracts and HR requirements to include Associate Wellness requirements, New Associate Orientation, and onboarding activities specific to interpreters/contracted Associates.
- Establishes policies and procedures for screening, training, supervising, and evaluating all interpreters providing services for MWHC. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the program and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Works with language-service vendors to ensure compliance with MWHC procedures and policies. Resolve issues with vendor interpreters, reconcile and approve all invoices in alignment with current documented contracts.
- Leads the management and expansion of the Language Access program through outreach efforts and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicates program and/or process changes to Language Access providers, leadership, and staff as needed.
- Administers the Associate Interpreter Program, including incentive pay, training, and continuing education to all MWHC Associate Interpreters in evolving interpreter standards, regulations, and medical vocabulary.
- Monitors and routes requests for interpreter services received through the electronic medical record (EMR) system to appropriate interpretation providers.
- Maintains the interpreter schedules for all MWHC entities to include all outpatient services. Schedules Interpreters for requesting MWHC internal customers.
- Educates MWHC personnel regarding the appropriate use of all modalities of language access services to include face-to-face, telephone and video remote interpretation (VRI) language access services to assure compliance with the Civil Rights Acts and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Works with appropriate MWHC Departments to meet the standards for the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies related to interpretation services
- Participate in the management of the Interpreter Service's budget.
- Tracks interpreter utilization and performance data to identify utilization trends and process improvement opportunities.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of Language Access related experience required.
- Experience with contract management, required
- Must be able to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a multi-project environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required.
- National medical interpreter certification - Commission of Healthcare Interpreter Certification (CCHI) or National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI), required within one year of employment.
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations and/or including fluency in a second language, preferred.
