POSITION SUMMARY: The Oncology Clinical Research Nurse plays an important role in clinical trials and program development. In addition to providing and coordinating clinical care, they have a central role in assuring participant safety, maintenance of informed consent, integrity of protocol implementation as well as working closely with the principal investigator. Moreover, the Oncology Clinical research nurse must continually balance the requirements of the clinical trials along with any amendments (i.e., closing a study arm; adding a drug to the study) with the clinical needs of the patient. The Oncology Clinical Research Nurse improves recruitment of patients by supporting patients with making informed decisions about clinical trials participation. The Oncology Clinical Research Nurse manages and supports their assigned research studies throughout the regulatory process from initial Institutional Review Board (IRB) application until protocol closure.
RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Registered Nurse, BSN or LPN in Nursing required. Experience in Oncology preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current New Mexico Nursing License. Current BLS certifications issued by the American Heart Association required. ACRP-CP or CRC, or SOCRA-CCRP preferred. Certificate of training in Good Clinical Practice must be completed within 1 month of hire.
SKILLS:
- Excellent project management and organization skills are essential.
- Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to establish a rapport with team members.
- Ability to plan effectively and set priorities, completing assignments in a timely manner.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a health care setting and related experience with quality, care coordination and oncology preferred.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
-Responsible to: Regional Research Manager
ENVIRONMENT:
- Bloodborne pathogen Multiple settings and variable unpredictable situations including inpatient, specialty and primary care settings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to move around settings of care. Requires close work, good vision, dexterity to write as well as to use computer keyboard. Ability to handle stressful situations. Must possess and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
