Director of Diversity
The Radiology Department at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, ranked the No. 1 Best Hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth, is seeking a board certified/eligible, fellowship-trained physician radiologist to work with approximately 165 clinical and research faculty. This faculty position will be appointed as the Diversity Leader for the Radiology Department, reporting directly to the Chair of Radiology and working in concert with the Executive Leadership Committee of the Department. As such, this individual will act in alignment and closely with their priorities and interests, consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the Department of Radiology. Appointment rank and track will be commensurate with accomplishments and experience.
The Departmental Diversity Leader will serve as a member of the Chair’s Executive Leadership Committee and advise the Chair on all aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the department. The position will have protected time to develop policies and practices consistent with the departmental and medical center-wide goals to ensure equal opportunity for all faculty, trainees, and staff and to expand diversity within the department. This includes ensuring that diversity and inclusion is an intrinsic component of all the department’s clinical, research, and educational programs.
Specific roles of the position include but are not limited to:
- Working with the chair to ensure that diversity and inclusion are prioritized when recruiting new faculty
- Serving as an ex officiomember of all search committees for leadership positions and guiding/training search committees on DEI and bias mitigation
- Serving as an ex officiomember of the departmental promotions and tenure committee
- Work with departmental educational leaders to create a core curriculum of DEI/healthcare disparities/SDOH for trainees in the department and for faculty
- Work with department’s training program directors to enhance recruitment and retention of diverse trainees and fellows
- Advise the Chair on ad hocissues that arise regarding DEI
- Work with other leaders to enhance a climate of inclusion in the department, ensuring that all faculty, staff, and trainees in the department feel welcomed and valued
- Participate in USTW collaborative of departmental diversity leaders to discuss best practices and innovative strategies in DEI. This group will be led by the Associate Dean for faculty diversity
- Participate in professional development activities for DEI leaders (those offered by UTSW, AAMC, specialty societies, etc.)
- Contribute to peer-reviewed literature on aspects of the specialty related broadly to DEI.
