SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Participates in the day-to-day running & maintenance of the mass spectrometry instrumentation for the purpose of applying mass spectrometry to clinical & biomedical problems involving & related to physiological & pathophysiological states.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES- Quality & Compliance
Establish quality control procedures for ongoing validation of methods & preparation of Specific Operating Procedure (SOP) documents. Ensure audit ready status of lab at all times. Comply with all Institutional regulatory requirements of safety. Conducts & oversees the laboratory compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), & safety & regulatory requirements.- Conduct Research/Perform Tests/Procedures
Coordinate & schedule activities & daily work utilizing Mass Spectrometry instrumentation. Develop, prepare, & validate research protocols utilizing analytical equipment. Design & implement analytical protocols for ongoing research. Interact with the Division Director on a regular basis & with other investigators requiring mass spectrometry assistance to plan experiments. Execute & establish a new methodologies as requested with the view of enhancing the core service operation for CCHMC researchers. Engage in the qualitative & quantitative analysis of a variety of compound classes including lipids, bile acids, steroids, sterols, & xenobiotic, drug & drug metabolites in various clinical projects related to these compound classes. Develop & validate qualitative & quantitative assays using selected ion monitoring & tandem approaches for precise quantitation of trace components in biological fluids. Contribute to the research programs in other divisions with a focus on lipid & bile acid biosynthesis & metabolism. Provide analysis & evaluation of material & products at all stages of development process. Participates in the preparation & publication of clinical & scientific findings related to the application of mass spectrometry.- Instrumentation
Operate & maintain laboratory equipment associated with LC-MS, GC-MS, Q-TOF, HPLC, tandem mass spectrometers, and numerous gas & liquid chromatographs, HPLC instruments and sample preparation equipment. Perform preventative maintenance of instrumentation & evaluation of performance, including communications with the Maintenance Department at CCHMC where necessary. Adapt to the changing requirements of the department, including overseeing the installation of new instrumentation acquired.- Data Analysis II
Research and analyze data, test measures and/or trends. May make recommendations to the appropriate individuals or parties. Create, maintain, and/or distribute reports/summaries to the necessary parties and conduct related research. May support or assist in interventions based on analyses. May request or produce ad hoc analysis as needed. May participate in data or database management.- Collaboration
Work collaboratively/cooperatively with others to achieve goals. Proactively adjust one's style and/or efforts to complement those of others. Develop positive working relationships with peers/colleagues. Share knowledge and/or provide support for team members. Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
Preferred:- PhD or Masters in a related field
Unique Skills:
Emphasis on toxicology and drug monitoring.
Previous experience in the application of mass spectrometry to testing for drugs of abuse and/or therapeutic drug monitoring.
