The College of Health and Human Services at the University of New Hampshire seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Director for the Institute for Health Policy and Practice (IHPP) with eligibility for faculty appointment at the Associate or Full rank (tenure or non-tenure earning) in an aligned department. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled or the search is otherwise closed at the University’s discretion.IHPP is an applied research institute founded as a state-university partnership for more than twenty years. Our team conducts and disseminates high-quality, innovative, practice-based research and policy work that enables health system partners to implement evidence-based strategies to improve population health. We are especially focused on addressing inequities in our health and social care systems. Our team engages in meaningful work that advances the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities in the state, region, and country using reliable and actionable data to guide policy development and health systems change.
The Director provides leadership, strategic oversight, and administration for the organization. This includes the development and strengthening of university, state, regional, and national relationships, which guides the team to achieve the IHPP vision to be a leader in integrating excellence across systems to yield optimal health for all people. The Director works with the IHPP Leadership Team in supporting a team of talented professionals as well as managing and executing a diverse portfolio of grants and contracts. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services and works closely with academic leaders, state leaders, funding partners, and other stakeholders to ensure that the vision, mission, and goals of the IHPP and CHHS are realized. IHPP’s portfolio includes five focal areas: Delivery System and Payment Reform, Health Analytics and Informatics, Health Law and Policy, Long-Term Care and Aging, and Public Health and Health Promotion. The Director is expected to support and strengthen activities in these areas while considering other high-value, relevant, and unrealized opportunities. IHPP acknowledges the implicit and explicit inequities in our health care system, especially the detrimental impact on the health outcomes of people of color and marginalized communities. IHPP continues to develop meaningful ways to use our voice, platform, and resources to fight injustice and eliminate inequities in our communities in and beyond New Hampshire. - An earned doctorate with health or human services focus
- 5-7 years of leadership and institutional management experience in academia, government, or related non-governmental organizations conducting health policy and practice related research or analysis
- A strong history of grant-funded research and grant development and a successful record managing grants and contracts from multiple sources
- A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and the creation of a positive work environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic collaborations with state and national government, philanthropic, intramural and extramural partners
- Demonstrated competency in developing and overseeing budgets over $500,000
- Effective communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- A sustained record of publications in peer-reviews journals and/or policy and white papers
- Ability to think strategically, remaining focused on goals and objectives
- High level of organization and attention to detail
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and ability to grow the Institute’s operations including sustainable funding for core operations

Duty/Responsibility
Provide leadership and management across IHPP including supervision of the Leadership Team, research and practice mentorship of staff, oversight of hiring and other HR decisions, and providing strategic direction for IHPP. Lead collaboration with key health and health care constituencies to develop partnerships that extend the reach of the Institute.Represent the Institute on the College Executive Committee and participate in strategic College, University, State, National and Federal policy activities. Work closely with College departments and Institutes to promote and expand interdisciplinary activity.
Contribute to IHPP grant applications and existing projects across a variety of funding sources.
Serve as PI on selected grants and contracts and provide expertise to meet project deliverables including dissemination of research and policy.
Provide support to the leadership team to continue to build the IHPP portfolio and secure diverse resources, including developing entrepreneurial business models for service and research.
Continue to build a growing body of applied research, policy and service that advances the missions of the IHPP and the CHHS and promotes best practices.
