Summary:
The Vice President (VP) of Philanthropy is a direct report to the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as a member of the Foundation Executive Team. In this role, the VP assists in the development and implementation of the foundation strategic plan and all operational objectives. The VP is responsible for directing and leading multiple areas that encompass a broad scope of responsibility. The VP serves as the first line supervisor and mentor to the Foundation's fundraising staff (both Friends and Children's Foundations) and program directors. The VP manages the work of the Associates assigned to do gift solicitation.
The VP is expected to exhibit both excellent leadership and extraordinary followership skills. In the role, member of the Foundation Executive Team, will be expected to work with his/her peers in a manner which exhibits strength, purpose, collaboration, and understanding. Must be able to think creatively, with the ability to accept a reasonable level of risk and be open to routine change. The VP is expected to give direction to any/all Foundation Associates and interpret policies as needed. Will often be called upon to serve as an administrative representative in facilitating interdisciplinary planning and problem solving.
In partnership with CEO, designs and directs the development efforts of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa (both Friends and Children's Foundations) to include designing and implementing a comprehensive and increasingly effective fundraising program. Pivotal to success in this position will be leading and completing the Foundation's comprehensive capital campaigns. Fundraising program includes corporate and Foundation gifts; major gifts; planned gifts; annual appeals, and special events. Critical focus will be on individual gift solicitation. The VP must be a skilled solicitor and have the ability to train/mentor staff in the art and science of major gifts solicitation. The VP is responsible for the recruitment, management, evaluation and professional development of fundraising staff while managing a portfolio of high-level prospects and donors.
The VP of Philanthropy has significant leadership, mentorship, and supervisory responsibilities to the entire Foundation team. Leads the development fundraising staff for both Children's and Friends Foundations.
Works closely with the CEO, health system leadership, and volunteers to ensure development needs.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- Eight years' experience in not-for-profit fundraising required, with ten years preferred, with career focus on individual gifts solicitation.
- Minimum of five years senior management leadership with responsibility for budget, human resources and planning required.
- Must have a demonstrated record of professional development through AHP, AFP, CASE or NCPG.
- Must have experience in planning and implementing complex, multi-year, multi-million-dollar fundraising initiatives.
- Must be able to secure major gifts and to manage a high performing fundraising team.
- Experience in health system fundraising and familiarity with San Antonio community is a plus.
- Experience in related fields considered (non-profit, business development, sales, marketing, communications, public relations)
- CFRE is recommended
