Duke University Hospital has 1,048 licensed inpatient beds and offers comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, including a regional emergency/trauma center; a major surgery suite containing 65 operating rooms; an endo-surgery center; a separate hospital outpatient surgical department with nine operating rooms and an extensive diagnostic and interventional radiology area.
For 2021-2022, U.S. News and World Report ranked Duke University Hospital nationally in 11 adult specialties: cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, ear, nose & throat, gastroenterology & GI surgery, gynecology, neurology & neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pulmonology & lung surgery, and urology.

In addition to its hospitals, Duke Health has an extensive, geographically dispersed network of outpatient facilities that include primary care offices, urgent care centers, multi-specialty clinics and outpatient surgery centers.
Position Summary:
This entry-level Human Resources Business Partner participates as a tactical and strategic member of the Human Resources team and works closely with Assistant HR Directors/Senior Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP) to support strategic initiatives. Areas of support include onboarding, compensation, team engagement, performance management, talent development, and employee retention. This position will provide consultative support to smaller client groups and perform project management work for assigned programs to ensure completion is on time and on budget and provide day-to-day support for team members.
Responsibilities:
Compensation:
Assist and advise manager with salary decisions that serve to recruit, retain and motivate qualified employees;
Partner with central compensation on appropriate compensation issues
Review requests for equity reviews, and reclassifications and analyze job descriptions, benchmarks, and salary guidelines.
Project management responsibilities include:
Creation and management of a detailed project plan for each assigned project.
Facilitate identification of key stakeholders, communicate with appropriate individuals, and ensure appropriate stakeholder engagement throughout the project life cycle.
Understand project scope, roles and responsibilities and assigned project tasks. Partner cross-functionally with appropriate individuals in order to deliver efficient and timely project delivery.
Collaborate with appropriate individuals to identify risks and issues that are not visible at the task level but impact the overall project or broader program and develop mitigation/response plans and prioritize based on impact.
Integrate and manage the program timeline by identifying all project internal & external interdependencies.
Develop timely and accurate reporting of project status including intervention and problem solving with appropriate individuals, creation of regular project dashboards to include cost.
Provide pro-active advice and counsel to team members on best practice to ensure project success. Seek opportunities to improve processes and facilitate process improvement projects.
Collect and maintain project documentation.
Other responsibilities include:
Lead and participate in assigned committees.
Develop and provide staff education/training sessions.
Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends. Develop and present data to all levels of leadership.
Support implementation of HR initiatives involving organizational culture, change management, leadership development, and career development.
Develop and document new and existing processes, procedures, and solutions to meet the business needs.
Perform broad professional human resources tasks to support policies and programs including onboarding, compensation, and performance appraisal processes.
Communication Skills:
Exceptional interpersonal, relationship management and communication skills with a proven record of influencing others, and collaborating across multiple operations and corporate support functions.
Special Skills:
Functional knowledge and experience in progressive HR project work experience preferred including project management and implementation skills.
Knowledge of compensation, performance management, and engagement is preferred.
Proven track record of building strong relationships vertically and horizontally within an organization.
Skillful in listening and ascertaining the needs and concerns of people and in communicating information concerning processes, policies, and procedures with accuracy and clarity.
Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
Ability to analyze data and identify trends and patterns and create innovative solutions.
Ability to handle competing priorities, organize and prioritize work and adapt comfortably to interrupted workflow.
Must be a responsive, action-oriented, and innovative problem solver.
Demonstrated ability to make informed decisions based on data and statistics and work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
BA/BS degree in Human Resources or related field required.
Experience:
At least two years of previous Human Resources experience in a generalist or business partner capacity, preferably in a healthcare/hospital environment.
HR certification preferred.
Computer Skills:
Experience with Microsoft Office - Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio and Outlook
Experience with SAP preferred
