SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Provides medical planning and treatment in anesthesiology. May direct health care personnel and conduct in-service training programs. May set up equipment and prepares various intravenous medications as directed. Tests and maintains anesthesia equipment; orders, stocks and maintains supplies and medications. Washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and anesthetic machine. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel.
SCOPE: Supplies; materials; case management and equipment utilized within anesthetizing locations. Support of operational efficiency and procedure quality.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES- Operating Room Readiness
Review daily surgery schedule to align supplies and equipment with case acuity and type. Ensure supplies and equipment are ready-to-use and available. Possess meaningful knowledge of supply and equipment use and operation across all surgical disciplines and anesthesia locations. Prepare and maintain specialized supplies and equipment. Recognize and resolve technical issues. Work in tandem with provider to fully prepare for case needs and intubate patient. Direct the work of anesthesia tech staff and serve as a resource for the resolution of non-standard issues and problems. Ensure that all anesthesia areas are ready and stocked with required equipment and supplies.- Communication
Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders. Respond to requests quickly and effectively. Identify and understand customer needs and expectations and meets them. Communicate any relevant information to clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders. Problem solve acute issues and pro-actively ensure prescribed case needs are met.- Staff Development
Directs technician responsibilities and provides service specific education (cardiac, neuro, ortho, etc.) to technicians. Signs-off competencies for Tech I and II- Clinical Assisting
Work side-by-side with anesthesia provider and assist with intubation/extubation. Includes, but not limited to, creation of and flushing of IV meds, use of fiber optics, U/S images, patient positioning (i.e.- jaw thrust), unwrapping of supplies and putting together parts and pieces (i.e.- proactively selecting correct sized ET tube based on patient size, age/case type, etc.).- Continuous Improvement
Lead/participate in improving/assuring organizational and/or departmental performance/quality through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and/or providing input to department discussions. Anticipate and actively identify and recommend areas for process/system improvement. May work with appropriate personnel to implement agreed upon changes. May participate in the evaluation of improvement initiatives/activities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred:- Cer. A.T. and/or Cer. A.T.T.
