JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing Research provides strategic vision and direction for nursing research and evidenced-based practice. The director facilitates and coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive nursing research program. The director promotes, supports, and facilitates nurses engaging in research activities to advance research in practice; evidence-based practice; the conduct of research; research utilization and dissemination of research results.
As a member of the nursing leadership team, the director establishes a setting that supports professional nursing practice and empowers nurses to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient nursing care in collaboration with all health care disciplines. The director ensures compliance with standards established by professional nursing organizations; national, state, and local regulatory agencies; and institutional policies and procedures. The director is accountable for nursing practice that upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior. The director mentors others, role models professionalism, and participates in activities that enhance professional development.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
Education: PhD in Nursing is required.
Licensure/Certification:
i. Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Texas; and
ii. Applicable professional certification to be completed within two (2) years, if not held at the time of
appointment.
iii. Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
Work Experience:
a. Five (5) years of professional nursing experience.
b. Demonstrated competence in design, execution, statistical analysis and reporting of clinical and
health services research.
c. Demonstrated competence and experience in managing, establishing and teaching clinical inquiry
(i.e., evidence-based practice).
d. Demonstrated ability to teach research methods.
e. Three (3) years of experience in research activities with competence in major statistical software
analysis and data-based management.
Management Experience: Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
Equipment Operated: Computer
