The Vice President of Strategic Planning is a strategic thought partner to the Chief Strategy Officer and provides leadership, coordination, monitoring and change management focused on organizational performance and growth. This position works across the Stanford Children's Health (SCH) organization to provide leadership, direction and consultation for growth through enterprise strategic planning; market expansion; internal and external market analyses; annual volume forecasting and budgeting; financial aspects of the faculty and Packard Children's Health Alliance (PCHA) professional practice; administration of the internal funds flow of PCHA and the School of Medicine Faculty Practice Organization (FPO). The Vice President of Strategic Planning is responsible for developing and executing strategic and business planning activity for the hospital, ambulatory environment and SCH overall in partnership with key constituents, administrative and physician leaders. S/he works to position the organization to increase market share, profitability, and volume for all clinical operating units and clinical service lines through the expansion and identification of new business opportunities. The position supports the funds flow, provider growth and productivity analyses and reporting between the hospital and School of Medicine. Supports institutional planning in partnership with School of Medicine (SOM), the Faculty Practice Organization (FPO), Packard Children's Alliance (PCHA), and with Stanford Health Care (SHC). Builds collaborative relationships with executive, management teams and physician leaders.

Lead and develops long-term 2030/2035 strategic planning process and overall progress. Aligns long, mid-term, and annual strategic planning processes to achieve preeminence for LPCH/SCH. Includes establishing and maintaining the mission, vision and goals, as well as implementation plans. The planning cycle includes supporting the development and alignment of the annual budget, long range financial plan, faculty and physician forecast, capital plan, and facility plan.
Through the strategic planning function, assesses the ongoing competitiveness of LPCH's clinical services and LPCH's position in selected markets. Maintains ongoing environmental assessment for those services and geographic markets.
Collaborates with a wide range of physicians, senior leaders, and/or faculty throughout LPCH/SCH, School of Medicine (SOM), and Stanford Health Care (SHC) to cultivate and lead planning, and growth initiatives which lead to enhanced revenue and/or operational performance.
Identifies and researches new and/or expanded opportunities to further LPCH mission and works collaboratively with senior management, service line leadership, and other departments and teams to formally assess strategic growth opportunities and investments.
Provides guidance and collaborates closely with senior leaders across various service lines to meet the strategic and operational analytics and reporting needs of the organization. Identifies gaps and improvement opportunities and implements or makes recommendations for improvements.
Leads the efforts to leverage analytics towards effective business planning and expansion. Develops analytical insights for assessing growth in volume, improved service and operations across LPCH and Stanford Children's Health.
Develops and facilitates information and data gathering, extraction, and reporting. Oversees various portfolio of information sources to provide insight on internal and external, market analyses. Collaborates with different stakeholders to synthesize data from disparate sources, analyze trends and translate the data into actionable strategic information. Works across SCH and other divisions to assure usability, data integrity and data governance.
Develops strategy and collaborates with SOM on faculty forecasting, faculty recruitment and budget development support. Participates in the administration of recruitment packages, funds flow agreements, and strategic support agreements.
Collaborates as a key participant in provider network strategic planning, evaluating and negotiating strategic support for School of Medicine divisions or programs, contracting and analytic efforts.
Partners with FPO and LPCH leadership in developing the economic model for the FPO and the definition of the funds flow between LPCH and the School of Medicine.
Collaborates with the LPCH physician network physician and administrative team to establish sound financial, business, and operations structures to support the continued economic viability of the ambulatory care and PCHA clinics.
Participates in the development and management of performance standards and related physician incentive plans for the physician network.
Assists PCHA leadership in administering the compensation model for PMG groups and physicians and funds flow between PMG and PCHA.
Oversees internal transfers of funding between SOM and SHC as well as external payments from partners & joint ventures.
Collaborates with Chief Strategy Officer to define, develops and measures corporate targets and metrics. Leads teams to present data to organization and service lines in a comprehensive and informative way incorporating quantitative and qualitative information such as market share, forecasting, competitive intelligence reports.
Responsible for integrated planning and development with related clinical service lines, including hospitals and physician practices, the faculty practice organization (FPO) as well as Packard Children's Health Alliance (PCHA). Ensures coordination with service lines and resources as may be necessary for the success of these programs.
Leads special analyses and reports related to strategic financial and statistical reports as requested.
Directs management of the team that supports these efforts that includes strategic planning, ambulatory analytics, provider analytics and finance, internal and external funds flow.
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor's degree in business or healthcare administration or related field from an accredited University. Master's degree preferred.
Experience: Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare, consulting, strategic planning, business development or related experience.
