JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Hospital Supervisor (SHS) is accountable for the operational, human resource, quality, and financial management of hospital supervisor resources and bed management. The SHS is responsible for the accounting of patient beds and efficient throughput of inpatients at Harris Health System. The SHS collaborates with multiple Harris Health departments and medical staff to ensure the efficient utilization of resources and beds and leads interdisciplinary teams to improve throughput systems and processes. The SHS monitors and communicates the status of hospital capacity and ensures that appropriate measures are undertaken when impending bed shortages arise.
The SHS serves as a resource to Harris Health System Leadership Team in areas related to organization-wide patient flow and complies with established standards by professional national and state nursing organizations, local regulatory agencies, and institutional policies and procedures. The SHS upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior; mentors others; is a role model of professionalism; and participates in professional and community activities.
Additionally, the SHS is accountable for the hospital wide administrative, operational, human resource, and patient safety management on off shifts and holidays. This supervisor works closely with hospital leadership and serves as the onsite administrative resource on assigned shifts. The SHS provides oversight to ensure that care delivery, quality management, and staff utilization patterns are congruent with Harris Health System policies, guidelines, and standards. The SHS has the authority to make all operational and human resource decisions relevant to his or her assigned shift as long as the decisions are consistent with system and departmental policies, standards, and other approved guidelines. The SHS maintains open communication with Pavilion leadership and other disciplines concerning operations and actual or potential problems; engaging Executive Administrative and departmental leadership as needed to assure appropriate communication regarding Pavilion operations.
The SHS is responsible for facilitating an environment that cultivates exemplary patient care. As a member of the hospital's leadership team, this supervisor establishes a setting that supports professional practice and empowers staff to provide safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient care in collaboration with all health care disciplines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
a.Education:
i.Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field required and a Master's degree in Nursing or related field is required. In addition to both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, at least one (1) of the following degrees in Nursing is required: Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree.
b.Licensure/Certification:
i.Current RN license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas
ii. Applicable professional certification in administration is to be completed within two (2) years, if not held at the time of appointment.
iii. Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
2.Work Experience: Five (5) years clinical experience plus three (3) management/leadership experience.
3.Management Experience: Three (3) years management/leadership experience is required.
