DescriptionThe Vice President and Divisional Chief Financial Officer (DCFO), Vanderbilt University Hospital (VUH) and Adult Ambulatory Operations provides executive level leadership and financial management, analysis and support enabling this flagship academic hospital of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) to achieve operational, financial, and strategic goals and initiatives. In addition, the DCFO oversees the finance support teams for Adult Ambulatory Operations. VUH is VUMC's quaternary care teaching hospital licensed for 726 acute care and specialty beds. VUH provides advanced patient care and serves as a key site for medical education and clinical research conducted by physician faculty. A Level I trauma center, VUH includes not only a comprehensive burn center but also transplant, cardiovascular, neuroscience and specialty medical and surgical services.
The DCFO will be responsible for the overall financial performance of VUH and Adult Ambulatory Operations and all aspects of its daily fiscal management, working in conjunction with VUMC Finance resources to provide the financial management needed for the hospital and clinics. A highly visible position within the organization, the DCFO serves as an advisor to the leadership team of VUH (President, COO, COS, CNO, and Senior Vice Presidents) regarding the operational financial management and strategic financial development of VUH and acts as an extension of the VUMC finance team. In addition, the DCFO will oversee and support the Adult Ambulatory Finance staff, providing coordination between VUH and ambulatory operations.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of eight years in health care financial management, including hospital financial management and leadership experience required. Preferable experience includes working in a public accounting firm along with/or in addition to current/prior experience as a CFO, Finance Vice President or Controller within a large complex hospital setting.
- Career track of progressive, documented accomplishments in increasingly complex financial management roles in a large, complex organization or multi-facility enterprise. Ideal professional record demonstrates the capacity to establish leadership of a service-oriented function within a multi-faceted academic healthcare enterprise.
- Skill to proactively advise and educate management on all aspects which financially impact VUH operating results. Demonstrated record of serving as an advisor and consultant to leadership on policies, operations and financial positioning. Leadership acumen to act as a key member of the Hospitals President and VUMC CFOs' leadership teams. The position will communicate and coordinate with key individuals within VUH, VUMC and VUMC Finance and as such must be skilled in working in a team-oriented environment.
- Management expertise to direct, plan and organize the financial operations of VUH and the Adult Ambulatory Operation including financial planning, budgeting and analysis. Ability to communicate financial information and collaborate with management regarding the business strategy for the hospital.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in the development, interpretation, coordination and communication of finance policies regarding accounting, budgeting, internal controls, compliance, and revenue capture.
- Leadership skill to facilitate organization-wide strategic planning, business prioritization and resource allocation in conjunction with VUH and Adult Ambulatory leadership and VUMC Finance leadership. Ability to ensure the hospital complies with institutional closing calendar, planning deadlines and reporting requirements.
- A change leader, able to act and provide leadership throughout the change process, who engages employees in the entire process and develops commitment for sustaining change. Able to turn vision into a workable plan and facilitating others' involvement toward a common goal and mapping a clear direction for the department.
- Documented executive level experience with general accounting principles and practices, and public sector or not-for profit health care accounting. Possesses excellent written, oral and electronic communications skills along with strong leadership and strategic planning skills.
- An analytic with the capacity to impose the discipline necessary to meet challenging financial goals. Proven financial analysis skills and extensive experience with a broad array of data management strategies.
- Proven record for developing organizational talent, with ability to recruit, retain and develop high performing individuals aligned with the institution's goals and values. Provides continuous feedback, encouragement and coaching to employees. Ensures all direct reports have development plans that increase their effectiveness and/or prepare them for future opportunities and expanded roles. Facilitates meaningful recognition for team and individual accomplishments.
- Ability to establish and maintain the objectives and strategy VUH and Adult Ambulatory operations that are linked to VUMC Finance's objectives and strategy. Proven skill to direct and control a comprehensive Hospital budget including allocations for capital budget, in coordination with VUMC Financial Planning and Analysis. Skill to prepare reports for management outlining the Hospital's financial position based on past, present, and future operations, including variance analysis of actual to budget performance.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and develop clear and informative methods to present financial information, special projects and focused studies to executive leadership within VUH, Adult Ambulatory Operations and to a wider audience including Clinical Department Chairs and their Chief Business Officers. Skill to present recommendations to leadership with respect to expense, labor management, etc. to support the VUH's operational results.
- Proven expertise in supporting the preparation of government required reports, third party review, and other financial information required by external entities in conjunction with VUMC Revenue and Reimbursement. Skill to evaluate continuously, in coordination with other Finance leadership, economic, demographic, and government changes and interpret their effective upon the hospital's financial performance.
- Experience in analyzing opportunities for business lines in alignment with organizational strategy. Ability to manage finance staff through establishment of performance goals, allocation of resources and assessment of direct reports.
- Proven ability to enhance the collective teams understanding of the connections between strategic and operational goals and financial performance.
- Proven ability to work successfully in a large complex matrix organizational structure.
- A person of the highest integrity. Must be able to develop trust and credibility and to build strong collaborative relationships throughout VUH and VUMC.
