Overview
Lead Data Engineer

As a lead developer of our Data Management team at St Luke's, you will be integral in developing and helping others develop innovative data solutions for business-critical data that is shared across the enterprise and collectively represents a "single source of truth." The ideal candidate for this position would have great communication skills, be a curious self-starter, have great analytical and problem-solving skills, and have a passion for delivering technical solutions that enable time-sensitive, critical decisions. Previous technical or personnel leadership is a plus, but not required.
Required Criteria:
- Education: Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years related experience
Responsibilities:
- Identify technical solutions that achieve efficiency and effectiveness and enable data usage as a strategic, business asset.
- Manages the status and flow of the work of the team.
- Participates in the development of best practices and standards to improve cycle time, quality, reduce defects and keep up with existing trends
- Supports department strategy and service delivery standards; provides recommendations where performance can be improved; ensures policies, practices and procedures are followed by direct reports.
- Leads and mentors a team of data engineers. Responsible for performance appraisals for positions under their direction; provides leadership guidance, counseling, and continuing education to staff.
- Works with business partners to prioritize work for the team.
- Works actively as a Data Engineer in the Data and Analytics Department. These responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and maintain data management capabilities including the enterprise data platform; its associated data models, ETL processes, and data architecture requirements.
- Build cross functional relationships with data analytic teams and business leaders to understand information needs, data flows, and data quality considerations to enable solution design and deployment.
- Utilize data profiling and data quality techniques for requirements validation, unit testing, and automated integration testing. Implement frameworks for automated and scripted testing.
- Contribute to improving solution stability, reliability, efficiency, and quality.
- Work with architects to implement solutions in alignment with standards.
- Identify technical solutions that achieve efficiency and effectiveness and enable data usage as a strategic business asset.
- Is available to support solutions as required by the business need.
Experience:
- Strong SQL experience, writing queries and stored procedures.
- Experience with database management systems including performance and tuning and security.
- Experience in developing and communicating data warehouse data models
- Development experience with Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services.
- Exposure to data warehousing methodologies
- Experience with REST and .NET preferred
- Previous technical or personnel leadership is a plus.
