Occ Summary
Coordinate and manage Pharmacy-related activities and PharmacyTechnician staff in order to achieve continuous and optimal patientcare.
Work Performed
Directly responsible for the management of Pharmacy Techniciansincluding, but not limited to, hi ring, orientation, performanceappraisals, promotions, disciplinary actio ns, vacation schedules, andmaintaining payroll records and time reports. Plan and schedule work for the Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring properdist ribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilitiesfor su bsequent performance of duties. Train new personnel.Conduct technician m eetings to assure staff are appropriately briefed ondepartmental and hea lth system updates and communications.Manage daily operations of technic ian-related Pharmacy services,including developing, updating, and review ing Standard OperatingProcedures (SOP) for all technician duties.Problem -solve patient complaints and complex medication-related issueswith communication/follow-up with department heads and administration.Ensure adeq uate resources to meet needs of patients and staff.Manage pharmaceutical supply inventories and responsible for allpharmaceutical supply orderin g. Processes all drug, equipment andsupplyorders and returns. Communic ate with vendors including wholesaler,pharmaceutical and supply companie s, etc. Oversee cost containmentactivities related to pharmaceuticals ( product substitution, priceincreases, etc.). Supervise drug distribution to clinics and satellitecenters. (e.g. floorstock, immunizations)Serve as Clinical Coordinator for the Durham Technical Community CollegePharm acy Technology Program. Structures and supervise the training andevalua tions of pharmacy technician students during on-site rotations.Participa te in the preparation of department budget. Make budgetaryrecommendation s and projections. Monitor, verify and reconcileexpenditures of budgeted funds, compiling information reflectingexpenditures, and develop cost-c omparisons. Identify cost savings withinthe operation. May be responsibl e formanaging grants and overseeingfinances for specialty drug programs .Actively contributes to the strategic planning and achievement ofdepart mental goals and objectives.Lead quality assurance and performance impro vement initiatives.Analyze, develop and implement strategies to continua lly improveperformance and quality.Provide for technician development an d ensure necessary safety andquality control in the delivery of drug pro ducts.Ensure compliance with legal, safety and security requirements inc ludingbut not limited to, required weekly reporting of control substance sdispensation to North Carolina Medicaid Office (CSRS), monitoring ofMed icaid reimbursement, safety standards (fire, OSHA, etc.), emergencyplan ning, etc.Represent the organization at local, state and national-level withPharmacy-related committees and organizations.Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.

Ability to select, train, supervise, evaluate, an d discipline employees.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and i n writing.Ability to work flexible schedule.Possess considerable knowled ge of drug names, medical terminology,pharmaceutical calculations, and d ifferent pharmacy work areas andequipment used.Ability to operate a comp uter and use related software.Ability to establish, maintain, and promot e effective workingrelationships.Ability to plan, organize, and prioriti ze work flow and activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma and completion of a certified pharmacy technician training program is required. Associates or Bachelors degree in a healthcare or business-related field strongly preferred.
Experience
Five years of experience as a pharmacy technician, including at least one year of experience in a Pharmacy leadership role, is required.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Pharmacy Technician certification required Pharmacy Technician, Advanced certification strongly preferred Registered with NC Board of Pharmacy required
