Job Summary:
The Senior Director, Employee Health, has overall responsibility and accountability for employee health programs and services throughout the WMCHealth Network of hospitals. Responsibilities include developing, directing, and evaluating system-wide employee health activities and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, accreditation requirements, and hospital policies and objectives. Supervision is exercised over occupational health staff, including professional level staff at affiliated network hospitals. Does related work as required.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the development and implementation of employee health programs and practices for WMCHealth Network's occupational health services and ensures compliance with organizational policies and objectives, accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Interacts with all levels of the organization and with outside agencies and vendors to ensure effective management of employee health programs and compliance with all necessary safety standards.
- Works with site directors to develop and maintain policies and procedures that provide overall practice guidelines and standards and establish ongoing assessment of program effectiveness and quality of service.
- Works with administration in developing objectives for occupational health that support organizational goals and objectives.
- Ensures compliance with required employee health standards, such as vaccinations, infection control precautions, and employee health records maintenance.
- Oversees the provision of pre-placement physicals, employee annual physical exams, and physical exams and treatment for injured workers.
- Monitors and evaluates quality improvement activities for employee health services and collaborates with other hospital departments for quality improvement initiatives.
- Researches data, analyzes trends and develops, prepares and submits statistical and custom reports as required.
- Oversees compilation of data for regulatory reporting and planning purposes.
- Assists in the preparation of the department's operating and capital budgets in conjunction with senior leadership, and monitors the department's budgets and expense.
- Acts as a liaison, resource, consultant and subject matter expert on matters pertaining to employee health and wellness.
- Sits on related hospital committees, such as Infection Prevention and Control Committee and Environment of Care Committee.
Experience:
7 years administrative or management level experience in or for a health care agency, including two years managing an occupational health program. 7 years' experience in an occupational health program, preferred.
Education:
Bachelor's degree, required. Satisfactory completion of a Master's degree in nursing, health care administration, public health, or related field may be substituted for two years of the above required general experience.
Licenses / Certifications:
Licensure and current registration as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist or Physician Assistant, preferred, but not required.
Other:
Thorough knowledge of principles, issues, and trends in the field of occupational health; thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations related to employee health and safety; good organizational skills; good knowledge of medical terminology and conditions; ability to effectively manage employee health programs over a number of sites and hospitals; ability to maintain effective working relationships with clinical staff and medical providers, employee health directors and staff at affiliated hospitals, and outside organizations involved in safety and occupational health matters; ability to analyze data and draw conclusions; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
