The Director of Research for the WMC Cancer Center's Cancer Clinical Trials Office (CCTO) will serve as research nurse for clinical trials using investigational agents. The Director of Research will report directly to the Medical Director of the CCTO.
Assists clinical staff in patient recruitment,
Supervises, coordinates, and implements regulatory research compliance,
Follow-up of patients that are eligible for or registered to a clinical trial.
Investigates and evaluates data and makes recommendations to improve patient care services;
Manage the research portion of the patient care activities through application of independent judgment.
Recommends and establishes appropriate staffing patterns through ongoing evaluation of service line needs.
Maintain communication, and collaboration with the research patient, patient's family, ancillary/support services, the physician investigators, and other staff of the CCTO.
Provide patient education about clinical trial treatment, possible side effects, and required testing; participate in site initiation visits, monitoring visits, and audits; and assist in the assessment, management and coordination of care across the continuum of care (outpatient, inpatient and home) including triage of phone calls, symptom management and proactive patient communication.
Support administration of grant funding, research funding, and development of division budget.
2-3 years of research experience in an academic research setting , required.
Possession of a valid license and current registration, issued by the New York State Department of Education, as a Registered Professional Nurse.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of current nursing techniques and procedures; comprehensive knowledge of principles of nursing service administration; comprehensive knowledge of the New York State Nurse Practice Act to include diagnosing and treating human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; comprehensive knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements; ability to communicate to all levels of staff as well as division directors in a professional manner; ability to set priorities; ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software; demonstrated competence in nursing administration; initiative; sound professional judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
