Spending nearly one year developing a single mission statement and values for the entire organization, SSM Health tasked 3,000 employees with framing it just right. Today that mission statement is 13 words – short by design. Inspired by the founding religious sisters, the mission defines the way SSM Health operates. Because the words come from SSM Health employees, they embrace the mission as their own.
"Through our exceptional health care services, we reveal the healing presence of God."
Inspired by our founding religious sisters, we value the sacredness and dignity of each person. Therefore, we find these five values consistent with our heritage and ministry:
? Compassion: We reveal the healing presence of God through compassionate care focused on the fullness of the person.
? Respect: We respect life at all stages and promote the dignity and well-being of every person.
? Excellence: We provide exceptional care and service through employees and physicians dedicated to our Mission.
? Stewardship. We use financial, human, and natural resources responsibly and care for the environment.
? Community: We cultivate relationships that inspire service and promote justice in our organization and throughout our communities, with special concern for the poor and marginalized.
SSM Health’s vision statement is: "Through our participation in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, communities, especially those that are economically, physically, and socially marginalized, will experience improved health in mind, body, spirit and environment within the financial limits of the system."
Laura Kaiser joined SSM Health as President and CEO in early 2017. Since that time, she has led a rigorous process to embark upon a new strategic direction, appropriately titled: Vision 2023. The key tenets of the new strategic direction have been encapsulated in the following statement, "As a Catholic healing ministry, SSM Health will be a leader in delivering compassionate, safe, affordable, and accessible care designed around the needs of the individual. We will nurture the well-being of our communities and partner with others to continuously seek out innovative solutions that improve health in every stage of life." From this strategic direction, SSM Health has determined four strategic areas of focus: Growth and Partnership, Exceptional Performance, Connectivity and Culture, and Transformation. The system has furthermore outlined definition around each of the strategic areas of focus, which are outlined below.
? Growth and Partnership: We will be an industry leader with integrated partners who strengthen our ministry
? Exceptional Performance: We will deliver the highest quality, safest and most affordable health care services, exceeding expectations for every person we encounter
? Connectivity and Culture: We will be nationally recognized as the ministry where people can reach their greatest potential and fulfill their calling to serve others
? Transformation: We will build healthier communities by making individualized care simple to access and sustainable
