The Patient Safety Consultant serves as an essential partner to our client’s system, service line, and care site executive teams in providing subject matter expertise to continually advance the culture of safety.

The selected interim also serves as a teacher, coach, facilitator, and advisor to all levels of the organization regarding best practices in safety science and human behavior, high reliability, teamwork, and various improvement methodologies and strategies.
This role reports directly to the System AVP for Patient Safety and is assigned a primary care site for the day to day oversight and management of patient and team member safety events and offers support to additional care sites when necessary.
ABOUT THIS OUTSTANDING INTERIM OPPORTUNITY
3 - 6+ Month Assignment
Maintains event reporting system at the designated facility
Performs as a content expert for patient safety and quality improvement
Conducts root cause analyses (RCA) and failure mode and effects (FMEA) analyses
Contributes to the development and implementation of an effective patient safety strategy to guide and shape priorities and initiatives
Recommends and facilitates positive change within the organization to improve patient safety, based on identified risks and safety issues
Partners effectively with others to prioritize improvement initiatives to achieve sustainable results and outcomes
Integrates various initiatives into a coordinated, comprehensive safety program
Interacts with external regulatory agencies (including but not limited to Joint Commission and CMS) as needed for interpretation and clarification of regulatory requirements
Develops effective internal communications for patient safety-related information
Designs and implements educational programs that facilitate the understanding and implementation of key patient safety practices within the organization such as TeamSTEPPS, and Just Culture
Provides coaching and consultation to staff from all disciplines with regards to safety
Manages safety events using various improvement methodologies such as RCA2, ACA, FMEAs, in a timely and effective manner in collaboration with the team for risk mitigation
Facilitates hospital safety committee activities to assure appropriate reporting and closed-loop communications
Completes appropriate reports related to safety events
Contributes to team training programs for onboarding and ongoing education on teamwork and patient safety
Maintains a strong and current knowledge of best practices for a strong culture of safety, zero harm, and high reliability
Five years of relevant experience in acute care patient safety/risk management and quality/performance improvement
Experience conducting root cause analyses (RCA) and failure mode and effects (FMEA) analyses
Administering, and monitoring all aspects of Patient Safety initiatives and compliance with regulatory standards
Strong initiative, facilitation, and collaboration skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities
Maintaining a working knowledge of current and emerging strategies, tools, and literature in the patient safety field
Strong people skills, and oral and written communication skills to effectively facilitate teams, deliver presentations and express ideas
Ability to problem-solve, think critically/creatively while providing support and guidance through a consultative approach
Available to travel to the client-site and work a full-time schedule, M - F, or as needed
