St. Luke’s Health System is seeking an attorney with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in employment law to head its Labor and Employment Legal Team. The candidate should have extensive experience in all areas of employment law, including employment discrimination, complex disability and leave of absence issues. The candidate should also have experience litigating such matters in Federal and state courts and applicable Federal and state administrative agencies, including the EEOC, OSHA, and the Office for Civil Rights and their state counterparts. Experience or familiarity with traditional labor law and ERISA issues is desirable. The ideal candidate will also have experience in the healthcare industry.
Among other duties, the position consistently supports all aspects of the organization’s Human Resources Department, including Risk Management, Compliance, Compensation, Benefits (including medical and retirement plans), Talent Acquisition, Worker’s Compensation, Employee Relations, Business Strategy and Operations.
The candidate must have excellent written and oral advocacy skills, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
The Deputy General Counsel manages the legal department and provides guidance and support on organizational legal issues.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible in coordination with General Counsel and others for management of legal department.
Handles both complex and general legal matters within area(s) of expertise.
Serves as a subject matter expert and acts as a resource to other in-house attorneys and legal team members.
Protects company rights in contract negotiations, settlement, and litigation.
Responsible for defense of company in cases of litigation.
Assesses and ensures the organization operates in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations.
Responsible in coordination with General Counsel for performance management for legal staff members.
Leads and directs the work of other legal staff members.
Responsible in coordination with General Counsel for budget management.
Coordinates and oversees outside legal resources for St. Luke’s Health System and its subsidiaries.
Advises the board(s) and leadership on recent changes in laws and regulations that affect the company.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:(Minimum qualifications required for the job)
Education: Advanced Degree: J.D. or LL.M.
Experience: 10 years of relevant experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Must be a member of the Idaho Bar within one year.
