Chief Medical Officer

San Diego, CA - UC San Diego Health seeks a dynamic, experienced, collaborative and progressive physician leader with demonstrated capability to serve as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). This individual will serve a thriving and robust clinical enterprise that is one of the top?rated healthcare organizations in the nation. The CMO will be primarily responsible for the advancement of clinical care excellence at UC San Diego Medical Center - Hillcrest in downtown San Diego and the newly opened, state-of-the-art facility in La Jolla, Jacobs Medical Center.

UC San Diego Health is consistently recognized as a Vizient top 10 performing academic medical center and the CMO will play a pivotal role in maintaining this prominence. Surrounded by some of the country's best minds focused on healthcare information technologies, systems development and implementation as well as population science, the new CMO will lead the advancement of excellence in clinical care, including regulatory, patient and clinician satisfaction, quality and safety, and medical affairs. The CMO will build relationships with senior leaders at UC San Diego Health, the UC San Diego School of Medicine, and UC Health, guiding the comprehensive, strategic and tactical planning of quality, safety, and performance excellence programs.

The successful candidate will have a substantive track record of leadership in a complex, high performing academic medical center. They will have intimate knowledge of clinical practice, quality and patient safety, an understanding of the business of healthcare, and will earn the respect of peers and colleagues through professional achievement and fairness. A Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree is required as is completion of an ACGME approved residency program in any medical specialty with current Board Certification; active engagement in clinical practice is a requirement. An advanced degree in healthcare or a business related field is desired.
