As the Senior Director of Risk Management, you will oversee the Risk Management department and risk program in the hospital and its affiliates, and report directly to the hospital’s General Counsel. Your ability to foresee potential risks and identify trends is ideal for an organization that looks to the future the way ours does. Come collaborate with senior management, the hospital board, and all types of medical/clinical staff to establish, coordinate and uphold far-sighted and innovative risk plans that support our quality reputation.
In this position, you will proactively and collaboratively identify and address any problems, incidents, and issues of concern. You will review issues of a potentially litigious nature, design and implement hospital-wide reporting systems, review clinical events and adverse outcomes, and refer matters to third parties (ranging from hospital departments and teams, to quality committees and legal or insurance representatives). As our Senior Director of Risk Management, you will also be a vital source of educational programs that can minimize professional liability and optimize adherence to hospital and regulatory quality of care standards.
The selected professional will also:
- Establish a comprehensive approach to identify, review, and resolve clinical events, both actual and perceived
- Identify patterns, trends, significant issues, and creative approaches to them
- Help run staff education and in-service training programs that foster adherence to standards for risk management/reduction
- Participate in regulatory reporting activities (NYPORTS, DoH, JCAHO, etc.)
- Be a source of expertise for lawyers, insurance carriers, and other partners to claims and potentially litigious events
- Address any patient care and clinical issues daily
- Facilitate Root Cause Analysis, Risk, Quality and Patient Safety committees
- Conduct initial investigations into adverse occurrences and other reported incidences
- Perform quarterly peer reviews
The ideal candidate has:
- A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s desired) in Nursing and license to practice nursing (preferred), Business Administration, JD, or healthcare-related field
- Five years of experience in risk management, within in large hospital environment
- Current licensure in the respective health discipline
- ARM or CHPRM professional certification strongly preferred
- Ability to build excellent rapport with TBHC staff
- Substantial amount of motivation, organizational skill, and computer proficiency
- Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to significant issues
- Strong organizational, computer, and interpersonal communication skills, particularly with regard to liaison with regulatory agencies, lawyers, and insurance personnel
- Capacity to manage stressful situations and urgent deadlines with a firm, clear head
