Since 1845, The Brooklyn Hospital Center has been dedicated to outstanding health services, education and research to keep the people of Brooklyn and greater New York healthy. TBHC’s focus is ensuring optimal patient care using advanced technology, innovative medical and surgical treatments, and staff expertise. Our hospital has always operated with a certain amount of foresight, and believe the best decisions are made with reasoning, judgement, up-to-the minute knowledge, and the ability to predict problems rather than just reacting to them.
That is why someone with your views, visionary thinking, and proactive business style is more than merely welcomed here—you’d be an essential part of a dynamic, thriving, and future-focused organization and leadership team. We are always open to fresh ideas and integrating new systems, and we so look forward to discovering yours.
In this position, you will proactively and collaboratively identify and address any problems, incidents and issues of concern. You will review issues of a potentially litigious nature, design and implement hospital-wide reporting systems, review clinical events and adverse outcomes, and refer matters to third parties (ranging from hospital departments and teams, to quality committees and legal or insurance representatives.) As our Senior Risk Manager, you will also be a vital source of educational programs that can minimize professional liability and optimize adherence to hospital and regulatory quality of care standards.
This opportunity further involves root cause analyses, managing adverse outcomes, steering claims through the litigation process, and developing/leading educational programs for clinical/nursing, physician and administrative personnel. Will also provide recommendations on the hospital’s response to consent issues, summonses/complaints and emergent patient issues.
The right candidate for our quality-centric mission must possess:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing and license to practice as an RN in New York State
Substantial background of healthcare training and experience
At least five years of risk management experience with a track record of improvement
Demonstrated knowledge of litigation and claims experience and work-up of a file pre- and during litigation
Knowledge of applicable legislation and risk management trends
Strong organizational, computer, and interpersonal communication skills, particularly with regard to liaison with regulatory agencies, lawyers, and insurance personnel
We foster great, team-spirited collaborations
We’re truly a community that’s open for everyone to participate in making an impact. If you manage with insight and ideas, you'll feel at home here. As a team-based culture, we look for leaders who can inspire their workgroup to work well together, respect differing opinions, listen actively, and be expressive with their ideas. We will welcome you into the stimulating collaborative process for personal and professional growth.
