We are a major community hospital seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable professional to support managerial initiatives to reduce institutional and staff liability with respect to litigation.
Under the direction of the Director of Risk Management, you will:
Create and implement a blueprint for staff education that facilitates identifying and reducing incidences
Assist in the development of a reporting system which comprehensively documents incidents and claims (adverse liability, medical malpractice, and implied negligence) and reduces liability risk
Enable thorough reporting of potential liability and claims, including data related to time frame, participants, risks and possible outcomes
Serve as the liaison with legal consultants, insurance carriers and outside counsel for claims and litigations involving the health system
Be knowledgeable of the claims and litigation process
Have knowledge of the adverse event review process, including root cause analysis process to provide feedback from a risk perspective
As a team member, assist the Regulatory Affairs team with NYSDOH and IPRO on-site surveys
Provide direction and advice to physician, nursing and administrative staff regarding medical-legal issues and hospital policy for potential risk issues involving such matters as documentation, informed consent, patient communication, chain of command and the like
The ideal candidate must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, patients/families as well as outside legal consultants, insurance carriers, accrediting and regulatory agencies. BSN, current NYS RN license, and Health Care Administration or related education/training is essential. Broad knowledge of current legislation and trends in risk management required. PC skills in Word, Excel, spreadsheet and clinical software essential.
